Behind the label - Becky. Founder of Becky Howie Lipcare

Describe your brand/business in 3 words:
Simple, Nourishing & Effective
What inspires you when you think about the future of your business?
When I think about the future of my business, my goal is to grow my product range, there are lots of exciting things in the pipeline! Watch this space!
What has been the biggest challenge you faced when building your business?
Definitely not being able to offer new products sooner, as certifying new products costs quite a lot and unfortunately the lockdown/pandemic has prevented me from working [as a make-up artist].
How do you look after your wellbeing when working long hours?
Being self employed I am really fortunate to be able to manage my own diary and always like to try and plan ahead to give myself enough time to rest in a busy week. My typical peak weekend is a wedding or 2 and back to back makeup appointments! So I try and give my self set days off in the week where possible. I’m so excited to see how I can juggle my ever growing lip care business with my makeup business!
What would your friends, family or colleagues say is your greatest skill?
That I’m a perfectionist - I care so much about giving a good service and having happy clients/customers, that I work so hard to ensure that I achieve this as much as I can!
What sustainable swaps have you made over the past few years?
I have changed my postal packaging to fully recyclable - from bubble wrap envelopes to cardboard boxes - I have also switched from plastic pouches to paper/cotton. Even in the making process I have made some tweaks and now don’t use any plastic spoons etc.
Can you name something positive to have come out of 2020?
My lip care business! I would never had created it without the first lockdown! 2020 has taught me to always look for the silver linings, because there is always one!
What is the best advice you could give to an entrepreneur starting a business?
My best advice is to just go for it - I keep telling myself, “nothing ventured, nothing gained” and I’ve carried that with me. It is so important to have confidence in your ideas and don’t let any doubts or difficulties hold you back. Financially I’ve struggled the past year due to not being able to work, and on paper it wasn’t a good time to create a business like this as there are so many huge costs involved, however I have just kept on putting my earnings back into the business to really help to develop it and it’s paid off. It is a small, humble business made with lots of love and care and I’m so proud that I just went for it!
